Torre rejected a $5 million 1-year offer from the Yankees.
This surprised me. Not the rejection, but that the Yankees would take the low road and give such an insulting offer. I know its still the highest manager salary, but a single year contract with a pay cut is a bit of a slap in the face.
Now the question is, who takes over? I don't really care, but I hope its decided soon. I don't want to hear about it every single day until its finished.

I am a die-hard Yankees fan and I wanted and still want Torre back as manager. I don't think he had a problem with the $5 Mil contract, but the 1 year was the problem and I don't blame Torre. That contract offer was insulting. No other manager in today's game has done what Torre has done. Torre has guided the Yankees to the playoffs every year he has been the manager (12 years).
The Yankees were the only playoff team this year that made the playoffs last year. The Yankees should have offer Torre as 2 or 3 year contract, depending if Torre wanted to stay for 2 or 3 more years.
You never see any team treat their manager/coach this bad after he has taken the team to the playoffs year after year. Especially when this year and last year, it was not Torre's fault. It was clearly the Yankees players because they played like crap except for a few players. This year Cano and Pettitte did great in the postseason and A-Rod did a little better than last year, but Jeter, Wang, Matsui, and even Posada did nothing this post-season.
I think the next Yankees manager would be either Mattingly or Girardi. Hopefully, the Yankees will re-offer Torre a BETTER offer.

I'm also a die-hard Yankee Fan and agree with just about everything you had to say. I don't want Mattingly to come into such a high pressure situation like we have now. Girardi seems like an option to me. Possibly Valentine. I'd love to see the Yankees come to their sense and make Torre a real offer, though.

I also don't think Mattingly is not ready to be a manager YET. Maybe in a couple more years as the Bench Coach. I think Girardi should be the manager, until Mattingly gets more experience by being the Bench Coach.

Typical Mets comment. No hard feelings though, because I know you are still recovering from that Mets COLLAPSE. Can anyone say CHOKE.

Well from a yankees fan perspective I am in the minority but Torre had to go !! Whether it is unrealistic or not the Yankees and their owner demand more. Torre was the highest paid manager and it was almost double the #2. He knew getting into this job his job was to win the world series, he didn't complete the job in 7 years. If your boss told you to perform at a certain level then you failed for 7 years you would be canned as well. I think the lack of a replacement is the reason people think Torre should stay, but in all honesty the Yankees management offered Joe a great deal. He would still be the highest paid manager in baseball, but they wanted him to have to work for the rest of the money. Don Mattingly is my all time favorite player and he may not be ready but it's a change and we need something ! This crap team can't get out of the damn first round !!
