Jon Garland to the Angels, Orlando Cabrera to the White Sox.
Any thoughts?
Garland is a nice, dependable innings-eater who won't hurt you in the rotation. The Angels may not have needed him all that much with a solid rotation already with Lackey, Escobar, Weaver, Saunders, and Ervin Santana (if he gets straightened out). However, they probably needed Cabrera less since they have quality young guys like Erick Aybar, Brandon Wood, and Maicer Izturis struggling for AB's.
The loser here appears to be Juan Uribe...and the Reds' owner, who claimed him a little while back in the auction to fill his SS spot early, and at a low price. Although I guess that happens when you start this early in the offseason (a player's role changing). I drafted Michael Bourn, thinking I was getting a #4 or 5 OF with some SB upside, and a few weeks later, I had the Astros' projected starting CF.

I like the trade for the Angels, but no so much for the White Sox. The Sox seem to be content on trying to compete, even though much of their roster consists of veteran players passed their prime. Garland, as you said, is an innings eater who consistently gives his team a chance to win. With the Angels' potent offense, he should get plenty of opportunities for wins. I'm not much of a Cabrera fan and I'm not too convinced he'll repeat this year's performance next season.
