I think if a player retires his contract is void...did he retire?

no no. retired players are no different from any other player. you have to figure the possibility of retirement into your contract lengths. deaths might be another issue.
now, this is a decision for the commish to make officially, but i've played in a lot of leagues, and retirement never lets you get out of a contract, and i'm pretty sure the commish will see it that way (although it doesn't matter all that much if we do things differently in this league).

well, i'll talk to him about changing that. it really makes no sense in leagues with varying contract years.

What? We have no control over whether someone will retire or not, esp if it is the last year of a 4 year deal. People in the bigs who retire don't get paid and it doesn't count against the cap.

I agree with the Senators that it doesn't make a lot of sense with variable contract years...I would understand if we just kept every player every year, then you would have to have contracts relieved.
But my thought process in only bidding on 1 or 2 year contracts with guys like Pudge or Thome was that they may not be around much longer than that.

i have to agree with the Red Sox and Senators. They have variable length contracts, so I think the possibility of retirement has to be factored in. Which explains why guys like Maddux are on a 1 year contract.
